I’ve been obsessed about travel and lifestyle blogs lately. The mere thought of an exotic locale surrounded by foreign sights and sounds appeal to me. Plus it's an excuse to get away from what is familiar and safe. Travel heightens our senses, pushing our comfort boundaries it reminds us that there’s a world out there full of possibilities. Bonus incentive to take gorgeous photos and eat delicious food….ahhh the life.

Personally there is four different kinds of travellers I have observed, none of which are better or worse than the other but simply distinguishing that each one of us are different in what we want out of a place and what we want to do with our time. Let me expand on my thoughts….

First. There’s the sightseer/tourist. A person that I believe is more about the sights. The fast paced, everyday we gotta do something or else they feel like they’ve wasted their time. With map in hand and a personalized itinerary organized, these people are all about ticking boxes and making sure they have the mandatory Eiffel tower shot or that Statue of Liberty pose down pat.

Second. Forget the monuments, sights and tourist attractions. All they want to do is lie down on a comfy day bed and find the best spa and be smothered with attention. Is that wrong? It sounds lovely though. This kind of traveller doesn’t really backpack or camp. Their idea of camping is a safari lodge in Kenya equipped with a five star chef and banyan tree spa included. Wouldn’t that be nice.

Third. It’s not about hotels and luxury but we need to be doing something physical AKA my husband!/ Adventure traveller. These people don’t want to sightsee, infact they feel likes it’s a waste of time. They want to climb mountains, kayak, parasail, mountain bike, ride a camel, bungee jump, skydive, sail etc you get my picture?“ How many temples and monkeys do we really need to see, they look all the same to me”. Enough said.

Fourth. I believe this is definitely the category I may belong to. I’m not a fan of hostels ( life is too short to be sharing toilets with teens who wear skirts as dresses). The combo of all three travellers. I myself love a bit of touristy stuff but I personally seek out comfortable accommodation with a nice spa topped off with good food. However I don’t mind roughing it up climbing mountains and camping under the stars ( luxe camping anyone?) If that makes me sound like a bimbo ….I think not. All fourth category traveller scours blogs, post and ofcourse tripadvisor and resort to lonely planet ( the bible!) to get the best deal for your buck….so we can afford that body scrub with gold leaf ha!

I was standing at one of the peaks of Mt Agung and caught this man in prayer overlooking the crater.

I was a bit sceptical of what Bali had to offer. Having heard from friends and reading forums that"Kuta" was the bogan state of Australia was discomforting to say the least. Then you read books like eat pray love by Elizabeth Gilbert, you conjure wonderful scenes in your head of rice paddies and herbal healers that made me question....can the real Bali please stand up!

From the verdant rice paddies of Ubud, rocky cool Ayung river, treacherous climb to Gunung Agung, Arty vibe of Sanur, luxuries of Nusa Dua, Surplus of seafood and smoke in Jimbaran....Bali is what you make of it. Yes Kuta can be an experience too.

Southern Treat: Grandma's Bakery

Ever since moving to Canberra, I'm constantly comparing it back to Sydney. From Food, coffee, places, people. In the first 6 months I complained my dear husbands ear off ( feeling sorry for him now....no sympathy). However from time time I find myself very lucky to have found middle ground....I have a really cool YOGA studio i attend regularly, found a hairdresser just last month, just yesterday I was fixated on making philly cheesesteaks that I scoured for a local butcher that would shave sirloin for me and voila...new bestfriend! The list can go on and I will most likely continue to show Canberra through a Sydneysiders eyes....

A couple of months back my dear mother in law (MIL) took me to Grandma's Bakery along the federal highway. It's got this country charm mish mash with Italian influence...very weird design wise but the food is yum. Here a few photos I took.

We went to Hong Kong for the second half of our honeymoon, I've never been to HK but heard so many things about. Some were good, others were not. I was excited to see for myself. We stayed at the Mira Hotel in TST. It was such a cool place, the comfiest bed ever, excellent room service and spa as well....swoon

Hong Kong can be a little overwhelming. However Agnes B cafe at the IFC can help you get over it. Yummy coffee and pastries. Don't forget to stop and check out the Agnes B florist shop with the most luscious blooms.

Happy New Year to everybody, so glad to be blogging again. I'm just so busy organizing all things related to "bridal" that I haven't had any time to blog whatsoever. I thought I'd share my love for letterpress....yes you heard me right letterpress.

For those of you who don't know much about letterpress, I stumbled across it during my wedding invitation research. Letterpress printing is truly the most beautiful craftsmanship - It is a centuries old art form, which is timeless, classic and results in a beautiful tactile impression into the paper.

Letterpress is the oldest and one of the most exquisite forms of printing available. Letterpress hasn't changed much since 1440 when Gutenberg developed movable type and the first ever printing press was invented. For the last 520 odd years, letterpress was the most common form of printing, it was a craft of masters, it was something terribly precious. However during the last century the development of faster, motorised offset printing presses meant that centuries of knowledge and craftsmanship were lost in an instant. However revival of such art is getting more popular today. Although expensive,it makes a beautiful lasting impression...pardon the pun

Pssst! I have a secret to tell, I had this thing about blogging and notions of how it exposed my private life and people looking at my pictures and reading about my travels etc. I even stopped looking at other bloggers. I was getting crazy busy , trying to juggle life, preparing for my wedding, taking photographs, adjusting to a new city, getting back to yoga, trying new things ...ahhhhh there alot of stuff!!!

Then I remembered my blogger password and voila! private messages asking me about travel, hosting an engagement party, photography...the lot. It took me approximately an hour of solid patience answering questions. Then it dawned on me, this blog maybe about me (however narcissistic I am) it does however help other people out, it's a community after all. and yes...you do get those random weirdos from time time...but if it means that about 100 or so people still check out my blog...I'll damn try my very best to entertain you all 100 or more.... and maybe keep my sanity along the way...I'm back!

My Panama

Have you ever put a piece of clothing on and feel totally transformed? Because in so many levels this panama hat is giving me so much added.....mm..mystery ? hahaha Totally! I'm in love with it. I have worn it so many times since i bought it from a chic boutique in Berry, a cute little town south of Sydney. You must visit this store called Roots and Wings, because they have the most loveliest items from Missoni, Ginger and Smart, Dita, Jac + Jack and Elsom just to name a few.

Well about my beloved hat, I've been searching for a genuine panama hat for so long that was reasonable in price, I saw some online for $500! Yeah I know pricey right? There were some at Bondi markets however I was a bit skeptical as so many vendors professed their authenticity albeit having no real clue what panama hats were made of. Having done some online research, Panama hats are wide brimmed hats of Ecuadorian descent made of plaited leaves from the toquilla plant .The reason why they are called "Panama hats" is because they are actually made in Ecuador not some factory in china or mexico.Fact:)

So about my hat. It is a Montecristi Ecuador Panama hat. here's an excerpt that i found really interesting about these lovely hats.....

"Montecristi, Ecuador Panama Hats - This village is internationally renowned for the high quality of the “Panama Hats” they produce (yes, you read correctly, Panama Hats are and always have been from Ecuador and not from Panama). In Montecristi, Ecuador live a handful of master weavers, the creators of the finest straw hats in the world "Montecristi Panama Hats". Hats so fine, they almost defy description. Montecristi panama hats are made from toquilla straw, hand-split into strands not much thicker than thread and woven so finely, at first a panama hat appears to be made from linen. Each panama hat is woven by a single artisan, hand-blocked, and takes months to complete. Blue Skies, Green Days

When I was a little girl growing up, I had this favourite book by Jillian Demuth named Blue Skies, Green Days. I loved it so much so that I carried it everywhere...to the park..to bed...to school...in the car...to the loo..yes. It's a story about a little girl named Skye describing the week she and her brother Heath and their cousin Kim spent with their grandparents, a potter and a furniture maker at their home in the Australian Bush. There they learnt to have such a lovely time outdoors doing so much fun things!

Simple story, simple message...having fun...getting out there! I grew up running around playing with children from my street riding my bike, swinging, playing water bombs and hide and seek....why i haven't been blogging lately because matter of factly I've just been having lots of fun...Sydney weather has been so lovely..SUN SUN SUN!!! that it's such a waste to be indoors or loitering around playing dress ups really.

Oh no she didn't...oh yes I did. I'm experimenting with prints and had this vision of using small graphic prints with the bold. Where do you go to find such things...Charity shops! but ofcourse. Vinnies and Salvation Army are probably my faves, I went on a whim to quench my print thirst and lo and behold I found this cute blouse and this pleated skirt with it's charming houndstooth print. I've worn it 5 times since i bought it earlier on this week....wait for it....Drum roll please...5 bucks!!! The blouse was a steal for 6. Not bad, not bad i thought to myself.

Today's adventures included having breakfast at the Deus Cafe , checked out some cool motorbikes and attended the Newtown Festival...not a bad way to spend a cloudy somewhat rainy weekend. How was yours?

When i was in New York two months ago I met up with Jane Ibrahim over sweet tea in nyc garment district, a delightfully sweet and super talented fashion designer who finally broke ground on her own to launch her label Maisonette 1977. I can't believe I actually saw these gorgeous designs in her studio and to finally see them on models is sooo Awesome! Her collection Punk Goddess is a delicious mix of soft flowy grecian influences and hard punk infusion of leather waxed fabrics executed with interesting silhouettes. At the age of 13, Jane fell in love with grunge fashion. She would save all her red pocket money to buy foreign fashion magazines that she tirelessly collected and studied. After years of studying abroad and receiving a BA from Johns Hopkins University, Jane went to Parsons School of Design for her AAS degree in Fashion Design. Jane has been living in New York since, working for Michael Kors, Yigal Azrouel, Oscar by Oscar de la Renta, Bill Blass New York, Theory, and Cynthia Steffe. Squib, Squid and April...November?

It's quite rare when I can actually not care what I do over the weekends ...most of the time I run on this tight schedule of doing groceries, running errands, watching my boyfriend play cricket, doing my assignments and so forth. But this weekend i got to relax...sleep in and in between visit the Topshop installation at Incu Sydney.

I was surprised to see they had a substantial collection on offer. I snapped these April wedge booties which by the way were sold out online! So i was definitely shocked they had these in the Sydney store. They're a bit snug on me...i actually put them online to see if anybody wanted to swap or buy them off me...but i changed my mind.

How fast had the year gone? Last night it was Halloween now it's november....

Breton stripes have been popular in the UK and America ever since the 1950s. With an unmistakable sprinkling of French chic, the pattern is consistently in style. Chanel cruise collection is all about stripes!

I've been meaning to show these really cute outfit combo. I've worn it a few times now and I'm still in love with it....The stripes, bows and black and white tones...very Coco Chanel. The dress on the inside is made of silk and reminds of a 20's flapper dress because of it's dropped waist. The belt i made from pearl beads and silver camellias, it's suppose to be a necklace but i think looks cool worn as a belt.

I look forward to Sundays... the streets are almost deserted and it's that one day that i can feel totally relax before I begin another week. This whole weekend was spent eating and more eating. That and my struggle to finish a few assignments argh!

I'm wearing a vintage dress that reminds me of an amish school uniform meet little house on the prairie..Amish people are cool... love it..so easy to wear and the fabric is this light worn in cotton... cool and oh so so comfortable. I bought it from Beacon's closet in Brooklyn a couple of weeks ago for 10 dollars. What's even more cute are these vintage tortoiseshell Karl Lagerfeld sunglasses that I'm obsessed about. For some reason I feel like some sorta feline cougar lioness animal. I'm so over oversized sunnies!

Happy Sunday! How funny is Sydney weather, schizophrenic borderline manic to say the least. It's suppose to be spring going into summer...and here I am wearing my boyfriend's jacket to comfort me from the northern winds! There's a bite in the air, yet when the sun shines through pockets of cloud you get this beautiful warmth tingling in your skin. We headed over to North Sydney today to enjoy some awesome jazz performances in the park...and boy they didn't disappoint...as the clouds parted in the late afternoon i was able to lay down and enjoy true spring...ahhh

So i was totally smitten by these shoes when Alix wore them on her blog. I knew Bronx shoes wouldn't be stocked in Sydney so I scoured the net to look for them in my size. Lucky for me, i found them online for $39 so i just had to buy them:) I've been walking in them all this week...they're so comfortable...They're making up for the Acne Niara and Atacoma i never got my mittens on..Beso!

I just like to say how wonderfully cool the blogging community is, I would like to say thank you to all the lovely readers who have sent me emails and sweet nothings this month and yet I have not replied to...big hugs to you darlings:). On a lighter note, a fellow blogger as well as photo classmate Joy has tagged me for "10 things about me"....so here it is....

1. I'm insanely passionate about fashion but sanely enough know where to draw the line. I wouldn't rake up a massive credit bill...I'm definitely an investment buyer.

2. I am not in the fashion industry.....on the contrary health and science... in the process of becoming a midwife. Yes delivering and taking care of babies and being with women :) Having worked in fashion before, I believe at the end of the day it certainly doesn't make me who I am. I love being able to make a significant footprint in other peoples lives by helping women bring their children into this world.

3. I love photography :) I have a secret fantasy of being able to one day see my photos in Vogue Living:)

4. I love architecture. Especially works by Gaudi & Le Corbusier, Frank Lloyd Wright to name drop a few.

5. I love food, making it, eating it.

6. I don't see anything wrong with being a nerd. I love books, going to museums, galleries and watching grandma films..

7. I take great pleasure in sitting at home reading a book, watching grand designs, making jewelry or day dream of the Seychelles than going out and getting pissed. Ok so I think i might be allergic to alcohol..

8.I love blogs....very very interesting.

9. I can count my good friends with one hand.

So the worst thing happened to me last week...I know worst things could have happened but for someone on vacation it's probably the worst thing that could have happened to me. Melodrama aside...my mac's hard drive fried on me! yes! All of my holiday pictures from fashion week, cape cod, boston and blog lovin pics with Karla from Karla's closet:( and my pictures from my interview with Maisonette designer Jane Ibrahim...so there. That's my excuse for not blogging. Luckily i didn't delete some photo's from my camera, unfortunately the mac doctor told me it's going to cost about $900 to retrieve my files :( I'd rather buy Chloe boots.

I have this fascination for colleges here in the states, I blame it solely on movies i have watched such as Legally Blonde, beautiful mind, good will hunting, the graduate...it could be the the nerd in me. We visited Harvard the other day, and I can't help but feel intelligent for simply being here (ha!), I was captivated by the history, architecture and tradition that swept through the place...how the students made their way around the campus with a sense of belonging. I love it so much so that i had to buy a college sweater...dork...Well as a souvenir?

I'm back in NYC for another week, and already I'm feeling terribly homesick, I can't wait to sleep in my own bed again. Anyway it's 4 am and I really must go to bed. Off to Coney Island tomorrow with the boys...Beso!

These boots were made for walking....

When we got here in Boston it was raining heavily, with no closed shoes in my suitcase i made my way to Aldo to find some comfortable shoes to walk on. Hence i found these awesome distressed leather boots...aren't they great?I wore them with this oversized shirt dress from NYC...so so comfortable. I think the biggest problem for girls when traveling is what to pack. In preparation for my trip , I managed to cull my items into a capsule of 10 pieces. As much as i was proud of myself for doing so, my main goal was to have as much space for new items I was going to buy. This soon backfired when i realised i had nothing to wear...i basically brought with me my nude stack heel, flats , a pair of jeans,trousers, some tops, underwear and 4 dresses....big mistake when your going away for 3 weeks or so....tsk tsk never again.

Anyway i soon fixed that problem and stimulated the New York economy by paying a visit to a few stores i have become very fond of ha ha. However my stay in the East Village was short lived to make way for a couple of days in Boston. On our last morning, i woke Ant up and showed him the rooftop of the building we were staying at.... after the rain ...the morning sky was a sight to behold. The views were breathtaking, i still can't get over how beautiful the skyline is and how I've grown accustomed to the NYC fire-escape staircases that hug most buildings around the city...I find it quaint and charming.....bye for now, going to Cape Cod in the morning. Was fortunate enough to get a seat to this show thanks to Jane. The clothes were light and pretty. It made me feel like rolling in the grass....On the even awesome side i got my hair done at the Tresemme counter and won the massive product box wherein you pick a key to open. I guess won't be purchasing any hair products very soon...We soon got so hungry and found Knickerbocker steakhouse near NYU.....steaks that melt in your mouth....ahhh what a day!

What I'm finding really cool in New York is that there's always something cool or interesting to look at. Just in my block alone, I could probably spend the entire day sitting in the front steps people watching and listening to conversations about their daily lives....like a social zoo per se. We spent the whole day walking...and walking. I was pretty pleased with myself with how much walking I've done here...and i mean lots! We walked from East Village to Soho, from Soho to the Brooklyn Bridge and finally Brooklyn bridge to Battery Park to visit Lady Liberty. We were pretty please with ourselves today that we reached the crown of the Statue of Liberty, having booked months ago, we were able to skip the lines and go straight to the top! That was probably the highlight of my day...til tomorrow Beso!

There's something about this city i'm falling in love with... I got here in the middle of the night and all i could really see was lights, hidden shadows and steaming sidewalks. I'm just excited to be here. I think it could be all the movies I watched growing up creating an impression of what New York would be like...When Harry met Sally, Breakfast at Tiffany's, The Godfather, Trading Places and so on. Today was my first day to step out into the streets and absorb the sunlight. and it hasn't disappointed....it's been a sensory overload, eating, listening, smelling...Ant and I did the biggest walk ever ( well the most I've walked without gym clothes) We walked from East village to St Patrick's Cathedral stopping at some awesome sights along the way and of-course I met Saks oh...and many more friends I will pay a visit in this coming fortnight...it's 11:34pm I'm starving...off to get some pizza..til tomorrow...good night!

Happy Sunday! So i woke up this morning very excited to purchase some vintage sunglasses for my friend Anna from Melbourne. When i turned up at her shop....they were gone! The black round vintage Karl Lagerfeld sunglasses that we passed up last week...gone..nada..zip! Instead they still had these blue ones.... They were the last pair...and i knew they were too good to pass up. So i made my photographs in black and white to pay homage to "the one that got away"...

P.S This design by Karl Lagerfeld reminds me so so much of the Chanel round sunglasses worn by a certain Olsen Twin.

I made this mood board two weeks ago and i love how it has everything i have an interest in. Old pictures I've taken, my favourite photographs, flowers, wallpaper...Everytime i look at it, i always seem to find something new. How chic is that photo of Jackie O? She's so effortless...

Two months ago, i said i was undergoing a revamp of our workspace, just like to say it's coming along. I hung the Guy Warren screen print, bought a peaceful white orchid and arranged our books and mags oh so chic-ly...voila!

I had the funnest weekend! Filled with shopping trips, eating, relaxing and museum hopping. Friends Loz and Anna came up from Melbourne, I took Anna around to some of my fave shopping destinations here in Sydney such as Paddington, Rozelle, Balmain and Bondi Junction. Along the way we both had fashion discoveries. The first was meeting a gentleman by the name of Charlie Middleton in Paddington Markets, Charlie makes italian lambskin leather clutches from vintage frames using old school techniques. I got the caramel buttery soft clutch and Anna got the black pebble...please check him out, there's only a limited number of clutches...once it's gone he won't be making them anymore.

The second discovery would be my ultimate fave buy of the year!! BIG CALL. I found these vintage Karl Lagerfeld sunglasses! There so so Fabulous! I'm so glad i didn't pass these up ( I was about to) They remind me of the Chanel collections going on...round frames, beautiful tortoiseshell, muted gold finishes, made in france. What's great about them is that they've never been worn, i found them brand new! Stored in some old lady's attic. I have a few, thinking of selling a couple. email me if you want to make an offer.

For the past couple of months i have been lusting after LD Tuttle spectre open toe boots. Every day i log on to have a look at the pictures i have compiled ...sad..very sad. I made calls to Saks, searched online and to my luck it's sold out. boo!

These past couple of days the weather has been sweet in Sydney. The suns out and the air has been warm. Not one bit does it feel like winter. So i manage to go without the usual stockings/tights combo and went bare. Apologies for the white (have not seen daylight) skin. Yesterday was Mother dears birthday, we celebrated by watching Harry Potter and some good old fashion YUM CHA! yum! I got a few things in my favourite store INCU and Nu+Nan. Do you remember a day that you've had and everything seemed to go right? I have. It may not be the most fabulous day purchasing a bag that you've been lusting for, or scoring jeans for half the price. It could just simply be that the suns out, drinking a soy cappuccino, good food , good company, a bit of sport, a bit of fashion and one a lager on one hand ( or a Lychee beer).

I spent the day with Ant watching the Red Bull Street style challenge in Bondi on Saturday. What i thought would be a boring day was nothing short of fun. Imagine emptying out Bondi Iceberg's pool and placing a stage for the footballers to showcase their talent, at the same time the open sea as the background...so so beautiful. Ofcourse i had my camera out! I also saw some awesome street fashion (i was too too shy to ask for a shoot...oh well).

I surprised myself today and woke up relatively early on my day off. I wanted to practice my camera skills before i start my photography course in a couple of weeks, so i headed to the Rocks in Sydney. Ever since i gained an interest towards photography i find myself walking slower, taking in every single detail my eyes could absorbed . I try to imagine what it would be like to capture a beautiful image ....I'm constantly looking. I went on top of the Harbour Bridge and made a video in which i am yet to post. In the meantime here's a few photos i took of myself using my newly purchased vintage tripod (yes, even the tripod is vintage. Paid 10 bucks for it. steal!)

Over the weekend we visited the Hunter Valley and Morpeth, I can't begin to explain how beautiful the countryside is. The rich colour of the earth, the crisp wind blowing through my hair, taste of fresh food in my lips... definitely an experience not to miss.

Eat: We ate lunch at the SMH two chefs hat restaurant Firestick Cafe located in the Poole's Rock winery. I definitely suggest to try their Goat's curd ravioli with sage burnt butter sauce with pine nuts and Wagyu beef burger....simply delicious! We then had dinner at Arnott's Bakehouse in Morpeth chef Jose Miguel is doing exciting flavours from local produce in the region. We tried the squid ink risotto with tomato and pancetta salad and pumpkin gnocchi for entrees . Eye fillet beef with potato tart and lamb rump with sweet onions.

Drink: Poole's Rock Winery, Scarborough Winery, Mcleash Estate

Sleep: A charming bed and breakfast in Morpeth named Merridy's at Morpeth. Owner Merridy was very lovely, making a scrumptious breakfast and was very accommodating (including local town gossip hee hee). A must when visiting Morpeth.

I was reading this month's RUSSH magazine and loved the piece on "What's inside people's bags" so much so that it gave me an idea to do my own. I've always been curious of what people carry around, little trinkets they treasure, books being red, lipsticks being used...anything really. Since starting this blog, I've received a few emails about what products i use everyday. So i guess this is my way of answering them.

My bag changes all the time, I base it pretty much on the look I'm trying to achieve or pure laziness.( the latter holds true most days). I'm terrible at organization and I'm even worse at loosing things. When I'm in a mad rush and trying to look for something in my bag, i feel as if i dived into the abyss....i simply get lost in it...So here it is...

Book: I bought this book at St Vinnies from a recent trip to Melbourne, it's a Paris shopping guide book. I like to keep in my bag to read in the bus to work and daydream of Parisian style.

Daily Planner: Like i said, I'm terrible at organization.

Phone: I don't know anybody without a phone, I'm trying not to loose myself to the Iphone.

Glasses: I've had these chanel specs for the past 3 years now and i still love them, pity i spilt acetone on them by accident. I'm blind without them.

Wallet: This Anne Klein wallet was given to me by my mother, it's really not my thing but i love it because it looks weird...ha!

Fruit: I always carry fruit or nuts, for those times I feel low on fuel. Lately i've been eating alot of ruby grapefruit and i mean alot (ok everyday) it's so deliciously juicy!

I'm currently on autopilot. Yes Autopilot. Since i got back from Canberra, I've been feeling under the weather (No, i don't have swine flu). I've been back at work learning how to deliver babies, reading magazines and making jewellery. Not at the same time though, that would be awesome but i'm not superwoman. What's awesome though is 'True Blood' I'm officially hooked on 'True Blood". Ant gave me the first two seasons and i've been hooked to my laptop since (under the covers though, I'm terrified of monsters, vampires and gore).

Nothing like nature, animals and crisp winter air to lift our spirits.

I know this post may have nothing to do with fashion but i thought i 'd give everybody a break, plus this is my blog and i can pretty much post whatever i like ...so ha! Nah...just joking. I thought it would be nice to show aussie countryside since a majority of the people reading my blog are from overseas.

The weekend was spent on a rocky road trip to Canberra for beautiful Emma's engagement party! On our way back Ant decided to pay visit to his Aunts farm filled with organic vegetables, twin baby goats, roosters, hens and ducks! How exciting! I felt like a kid in a playground. They even had natural compost, an environmentally friendly water tank, rain water irrigation, berries, kangaroos and i met a very charming cat by the name of Felix.

Bonjour! I celebrated my birthday a couple of weeks ago and i did mention that i would blog about it...so here it is. The theme was French expectations, lately i have been mad about french culture. You can blame that on bloggers such as Leblogdebetty, Cherryblossomgirl and GaranceDore (did i mention i have some french ancestry?) Anyway i decided to have my birthday dinner at Tastevin, lovely Brigadeiro mentioned it in her blog and gave a fantastic review that i couldn't help but book a table. From the moment i emailed them until we paid the bill, service was lovely. Natasha the maitre' d made us cocktails throughout the night and accommodated the most rowdiest bunch in a very romantic bistro. We didn't take much pictures of the food, however i can honestly say it was good value for money and simply was delicious. We had a special menu for my birthday, duck confit and roast pork, house made bread, oysters and yummy chocolate crepes for dessert. Beso!

Disclaimer: Nerd Alert!!!

I love shiny things, i may even get momentarily distracted by a shiny object...but hey i'm more than happy to be stunned by a two carat diamond ring...i wish. Growing up i recall collecting heaps of things from buttons, stickers,bottle caps, hello kitty stationary, but one thing that always manages to get nerd tags(yes people can be mean) is my love for stamps..yes stamps. I'm sure everybody has had some sort of stamp collection right? No? Ok well i guess i was the coolest kid in town then. As a child i used to write letters to post offices asking for free stamps and ask them questions on how to preserve them, i read books, joined a stamp club and even made penpals who share my passion for stamps. I used to have dreams of finding a Penny Black or some sort of rare Queen Elizabeth stamp and make lots and lots of moula. It may sound comical now but i enjoyed those times wasted on placing stamps in water and carefully drying them using my special tweezers....until i grew up and started to develop an interest in fashion, boys and shopping that my stamp collection made it's way underneath my bed and lost my penpals along the way. ( I'm sure they too grew up and chased boys and girls).

Now as an adult ( I think I am) i developed an expensive collection of shiny pretty things. I blame it on my love for Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's, but i love bows, diamonds, pearls and dangly pieces. I collect headbands! i love headbands , they make my hair pretty and can dress up the dullest outfits. I once had bangs but deliberately outgrew them so that a pretty headband can sit snuggly on my head. Although my love for shiny things isn't as easy as writing to a store and asking for free things just as i did when i was a young stamp collector. Nowadays I make my way to Tiffan'ys, draw jewellery, visit antique jewellery auctions, op shops, deceased estates finding my shiny pretty things just as a bower bird would collect shiny blue objects. Nonetheless it's the fact that although these are material possessions, i'm a firm believer you can give them to somebody special as well.

Ant and I went to see the 'September Issue' last night, the documentary about Vogue Editor Anna Wintour and the makings of the 2007 september issue of american vogue. The movie was to start at 915 pm but lo and behold when it comes to fashion...some one has to make an entrance and the movie fashionably late. We came reasonably early, having scoured through David Jones and Myer looking for our "Dream Doona" ( We did find it mind you). We were in the middle of our dinner in Wagamama when i pointed out to my boyfriend that i bet that the majority of these girls in the restaurant was going to watch the same movie as we were. Obviously he's response was " What!..nah, it's just Fashion Babe. What's the big deal?". But i knew better to bet against girls who were looking more stylish than your average Jane walking down George St. If i were to pick a night where i spotted 15 Chanel 2.55, YSL cage boots, Balenciaga, 5 Alexander Wang bags, fur coats, alot of leggings, Men in the tightest jeans and the greasiest hair slicks i have ever witnessed it would either be fashion week or this...so i gave myself a small smile and nodded.

By the time we approached the State Theatre at 8:30 there was a small line up of 6 middle age men and their wives. Having bought dress circle tickets we didn't think it was a big deal to line up for a movie and succumbed to our whims of eating mars pods (yummmy) and so headed towards the nearest 7eleven. By the time we came back the line up was still the same but as soon as Ant joined the cue, by some magical intervention a wave of people joined the cue creating chaos and havoc.......then came the Special line with B grade celebrities to boot. Mind you i was pretty excited to see Dion Lee lining up like a normal person, Ruby Rose in cool boots with gold studs and Karin Upton Baker in a fabulous fur coat, Romance was Born designers, magazine editors and whole heap of "I'm famous don't you know me" people being turned down. Ant and I thought this was the real show and was happily entertained by the antics of 'B' grade Aussie celebrities.

THE SEPTEMBER ISSUE: My Review

The September issue is known to be the biggest most important issue of the year for Vogue magazine. It's compared to a telephone book filled with editorials, fashion, advertising and don't forget the drama! The documentary is a showcase of the process in making this famous issue and the behind the scenes action of making the "the Bible" of the fashion world. With this journey we get to know characters such as Anna Wintour (Editor in Chief), Grace Coddington (Creative Director), Andre Leon Talley (Editor at Large) and whole heap of notable designers, photographers, Anna's daughter Bea and models in action.

I personally love this documentary by R.J Cutler, it was well thought out, fluid and raw! Grace Coddington was delightful to watch and I felt drawn to her as a person. From her beginnings as a model to her rise as a Creative Director in Vogue. Her wild fiery hair, no make up, funny, passionate persona is a sharp contrast to Wintours steely, cold, authoritative, and power woman blunt fringed figure.

It's definitely an eye opener to how much control Wintour has over the fashion world, over designers, retailers and the power to anoint new talent into the world of Fashion. I loved how Thakoon, a young up and coming designer with so much talent and humility was endorsed by Wintour.

I always had this perceived idea how she was loosely portrayed in the devil wears Prada, but as you watch this doco Ant and I agreed she was like any boss who only expects perfection. She is definitely a woman who knows what she wants, in an industry wherein if you don't have the balls you wont survive. No one would question the likes of Donald Trump, Murdoch or even S.I Newhouse, why Anna? Because women are suppose to be nice??? If she gets things done and does it well...Who cares!

I adore Grace Coddington! She is vivacious, humorous, full with passion and super talented! She's a genius.

My cute vintage lace top!

Sunday's are great for walking around and looking out for great bargains. I went to Rozelle markets today for the very first time , quite odd really considering i only live a couple of blocks away. Sun's out and for the first time in two months i decided to wear denim cut offs but soon realised it wasn't such a wise decision when a gust of wind swooped between my legs giving me goosebumps!(oopsies)

It was awesome to see such cool things at the markets, the boy scored a coffee table book on NYC bridges and I mysteriously disappeared and found myself in a stall called " Sparrow goes to Market". The stall keeper happily told me that everything was 10 bucks today including some really nice vintage lace tops! (my fave). So 25 dollars later ( i got a belt for 5) i was carrying this cute white paper bag filled with my goodies. Ant and I ate some yummy gozleme while we sat under a tree pondering on the efficacy of owning a gozleme business in Rozelle Markets (we were amazed at how such a simple product can generate 20 people line up.) The markets are filled with second hand bric a brac, vintage fashion and if your lucky some great second hand designer shoes, handbags and accessories. I was eyeing a dainty pair of leather gloves but had the feeling .. ( i wasn't really in love with it) so i let it go...that's the thing with markets. The stall keeper whispered as i walked away....."They always come back, when they get home they'll think about ...you'll see" . mmmm.....

Celebrated my birthday last night. Had din dins at Sean's Kitchen in Darling Harbour. Swell place, service was a bit snooty. Duck Fat fries was too die..coronary right there! Small gathering at work, small gathering at home....french night on Friday...excited about a few things coming up! One involving a lovely man taking me to the BIG APPLE in a couple of months which only mean one thing = SHOPPING, parentals funding a BAG purchase yipeee. Autumn Winter long sleeved dresses from Balenciaga, Thakoon, Karen Walker and Christian Lacroix are giving me goosebumps! Not only are they so so beautiful and scrumptious in cut and detail, the splashes of impressionism, marble effects, flowers and geometric patterns are simply to die! It reminds me of this Vintage japanese silk dress i bought for a few dollars (the shop keeper practically gave it to me) at Broadway Betty in Broadway. At the time fellow shoppers were laughing at me for trying what may be called a "Dorky"sack. But i knew better to see the "potential" in every piece. It was beautifully lined, mint condition, structured shoulders, vibrant colour...What's not to like! All i had to do was make it shorter and sew the seams...and voila...my very own sleeved winter dress. I love it! Beso

I went shopping yesterday with a goal in mind...Doona's/ Comforter! not those polyester hybrids that advertise it will keep you warm in the winter types but real goose down feather that make waking up in the morning bearable. Ant and I have been fighting over our Queen quilt for the past month, ending up in a Doona tango tug-o-war trying to get the most coverage from each side of the bed....So we came to a truce...NEW DOONA!

Off i drive to DFO Sydney in Homebush because 1) They have great bargains to be had in Sheridan and 2) I might do a sticky beak on the latest sale offers at Lisa Ho, Country Road and Witchery....My mum always manages to find some real gems over there... After an hour of searching for the perfect Doona (feather/down to be exact) i had no luck and decided to scour the nearby Dotti Store.... It was all a bit discouraging the way the store was laid out, clothes everywhere, racks everywhere, coat-hangers everywhere while the sales assistants chat on about their daily grind...but heck...I'm not expecting Harrods but keep the standard up ( i mused to myself). Then out of the corner of my eye was a few basic tees....BARGAIN! Drop crotch pants SOLD! Country Road had espadrilles on sale and i scored a blotchy ink skirt from Barkins for cheap....scarves, sunnies, and a loose cotton cardie. Fifty buckaroos later i was a happy camper!

I walked away from that frenzy with no Doona to offer home base....Oh well....more Tug-o-War then!

It's been a refreshing weekend thus far. Gone are the wet drops of acid rain from the black skies and lo and behold there is sun! During the week i've been practicing misjudgment by always forgetting to bring an umbrella .... every time i look outside it's either pissing rain or about to... go figure. It'd hard to dress for weather like this, one day cold... the next not. So today i opted to do the 'go between'. Beso!

I can't stress enough how important good basics are to any wardrobe, well to my wardrobe that is. I little birdie always told me if i invested in good quality pieces they will transcend time. This is definitely the case... I have lived in this outfit for about 2 years now...i know..i know...long... but wait! This simple outfit will get me everywhere, dress it up or dress it down.

My boyfriend/partner never understood and (still doesn't) how important it is to invest in dressing. Take for example:

Chanel bag... This i managed to acquire through an online estate auction from a lady who passed 3 years ago....(bless). I got it for fraction of the cost...because no one wanted to buy it because the lady died?! Who cares...just think of it this way....the bag has another life.

Jeans: I always believed a girl will always have a staple jean. Call it sentimental or downright corny...the heaven's opened up 6 years ago on my birthday and delivered me Paper Denim Cloth. I always wanted these jeans and back then they were fetching for 400AUD in David Jones...but lo and behold my mum found the only pair in my size for 50 bucks.... coincidence or fate ..... you decide. I have lived in these jeans until the crotch bore a hole! but since then, 6 pairs later it's still my fave jeans!

Cashmere Scarves: Cashmere is luxurious, feels like babies kissing you, soft, warm and comfy! I have over 20 or so in different colors. They can liven up any outfit.

Leopard print: When worn well, it brings an outfit to a whole new level. I once followed a gorgeous lady in a mall just to ask her where she got her Leopard print wedges from. She knew where i was coming from...it's so hard to find the perfect pair. But i love them in ballet flats, wedges and flat sling backs.

Black cardies: Versatile, warm and can be thrown on with basically every outfit. Invest in quality pieces that is durable,comfortable and easily goes with your other wardrobe pieces.

So in conclusion, while boys invest in stocks, real estate, cars blah blah blah....say your wardrobe will get you over the global financial crisis....It's an Investment honey! Beso!

I just had to blog about my obsession with Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's. So much so that i had my very own tiffany moment when my girlfriends helped me take pictures in front of the Tiffany's store in Sydney some time ago. I guess most girls love this movie...who doesn't love Holly Golightly in her LBD's and pearls....ahhh love. My favorite actress to recreate the look was when Natalie Portman donned the same Givenchy dress...my heart definitely skipped a beat!

I recreated the look having scored a 70's Carla Zampatti crepe black dress from a local charity store, with my luck managed to find a vintage brooch which i fastened to some glass pearls, the tiara i bought from a craft store and placed diamantes and pearls, the satin gloves were probably the most expensive items...but they were worth it, alternatively you can buy them from DJ's or Myer in Australia.

Every girl needs to dress up once in a while...why not dress as Holly Darlings! Beso x

Happy Mother's day! The weekend has been pretty low key, i was busy working saturday that i feel like i didn't get a break at all...I've been just staying indoors cooking and doing alot of house chores ( i know, i know...boring). Anyway I've just came home from dinner with my family and hanging out at the local pub...Earlier on in the day I went for a drive in Balmain, checking out all the boutiques. I've recently discovered Mushu in Darling St , and scored this beautiful Marnie Skillings dress from SSO8 . It reminds me of cherry blossoms and how spring can be so wonderful especially when Sydney weather has been on the chilly side. I'm in love with this dress, how it's so soft and delicate and powerful at the same time with it's hanging collar.... I de-girlified with a waiters jacket, paired with ribbon pumps...ahhh!

Food porn coming up your way! Last saturday A and I decided to pucker up our lips and get biting on a restaurant reviewed by local critics as one of the best in authentic japanese restaurants in Sydney..... (Tetsuya eats here weekly) I love japanese food! the taste is clean and the flavors are so scrumptious. We've been to a few around Sydney but left Azuma for a special occasion. After having been advised by close friends, we decided to do the degustation menu on offer. I must say my lack in photography skills doesn't do any justice to how beautiful. artful and vibrant the colors were...mmmm. However i got to carried away with the appetizers and some dishes and forgot to take pics of everything...oops.

Roxy Verdict

As you enter the restaurant i got the sense of a cool relaxed vibe, casual enough to not worry about sooty wait staff but formal enough to have a special date or special occasion. As i looked around a majority of the patrons were either tourist and couples like ourselves celebrating a momentous occasion...so i thought. We were seated immediately and was greeted by a funky japanese lady with ice blue eyeshadow and a mohawk...yes a mohawk. cool i thought. Everyone was smiling and genuinely acknowledged your presences as a customer, bowing and smiling as if they were in-sync to some orderly regime....( Ok i get paranoid at times). We knew what we wanted and ordered our 10 course Omakase Degustation. I must say, we weren't the only ones. Judging by what the wait staff were tottering ...the omakase was what people regularly came for or wanted to try. I've eaten alot of japanese food, and heck A lives on the stuff having travelled to japan. But what they advertise is surely what they deliver. From the word go if your looking for Authentic Japanese fine food ( No, don't look for california rolls here) this is the place to go. The Flavors explode in your mouth, each course was yummy...although at the same time i wish they put more in my plate because it felt like i was being teased. My Favourites were "Amuse- Bouche" consisting of Pacific oyster and salmon roe with citrus soy sauce, Prawn marinated in Nanban Sauce ( Shudder in delight), Wagyu Sirloin Steak with garlic soy sauce, seared Tuna with Daikon and last but not least ....Dessert! So i mentioned half of the whole menu....so go try it out! 4/5 birds:) Beso!

The weekend that was....

Good morning sunshine! No that's not how i feel this morning...exact opposite really. I just thought if i used reverse psychology my brain would be tricked into having a pleasant morning sans the headache...is it working?mmm think not. I woke up this morning thinking i was going to work and in fact i did. Showered, dressed and went to work...only to find out NO....your not working today .....ha! press rewind and go back home. I went to work on the wrong day DOH! (homer moment).

Anyway i thought i'd give everybody something to smile about and share my food safari this weekend of food, fun...lots of fun and finishing my "operation decorate my home". The weekend was spent eating lots of eating...in fact i have to thank my lucky stars that Sydney has really nice cafe's and restaurants to eat in....one of my favourite haunts is this quaint cafe in Leichhardt Mezzapica, I order exactly the same thing everytime. Linguine Pasta Gamberi with prawns is so so delicious and to top it off ..it's only $12...good huh? yeah . So if your ever in this part of town, you should definitely check it out. Their coffee isn't bad either.

So about this decorating project, I've been trying to find some really good bookcases that would look simple, clean and aesthetically pleasing at the same time. No..i really didn't just want a box positioned against the wall....i wanted a bookcase that looked expensive and copying the ones from those exxy magazines without the price tag...Ha! Fat chance i first thought....most of the designer pieces are fetching for two grand at least! Well I'd rather spend that on a new bag or even a new camera so i can take better pictures....so off we went to the Home Centre in Moore Park. We managed to find a ladder shelf bookcase from Oz design, it looked good, it was white ( i love white) plus it was down from $150 to $129...BARGAIN we thought! So we took it home and assembled it as soon as you can spell A-S-S-E-MBLE! The bad thing about it was....while we were putting out books,textbooks and magazines...it had toppled over and broke in two...the up side was we managed to get another one after pleading our case that it wasn't our fault it had toppled over! (well it wasn't)...so here's something i prepared earlier.... the finish product....Voila!

well...i like it.

So we celebrated our one year anniv with my boy this weekend, and pleasantly surprised he hasn't forgotten hahaha. To top it off he gave me a lovely present which i never thought he'd remember but i do love love it. I have been a fan of vintage posters for a couple for years now, it was exacerbated by our recent trip to Melbourne when i visited Vinatgepostersonly in Armadale and cooed and aahhed at all the awesome posters on offer....I welcome with delight Bally Blonde by Villemot as our new family member ...he he he.

This weekend has been so jam packed, i had to think on my feet literally and get out of the door. The day was spent cleaning my wardrobe out since it's been like a bomb site and i can't find anything this past week. I watched the Pacquiao match with Ant at the local Pub and managed to throw together my zebra print dress and patent pumps...imagine me looking all girly whilst rooting for pacquiao amongst a sea of english supporters...it was pretty funny....Now..i've just came home from watching Pablo Francisco the ever so hilarious comedian on tour for the Sydney Comedy festival ...and so put together the same dress and just added tights, a long cardi and a belt....voila new outfit. Ant and I went to watch Tony Wood's at the Comedy Factory tonight. It was a pretty good show, i even got to meet Tony in person, followed by a slice of pizza ...it was definitely a tame friday night.i'll blog about his show in the next couple of days.

I saw this little black dress a couple of weeks ago from Eva's Vintage on Norton St. Luckily for me i saw it's potential and snapped it up for $10. I love how the netting is sexy and discreet at the same time. The pockets are quite cute...if i put my hands in them, it looks like I'm wearing gloves. The dress was pretty much shapeless , like a barrel silhouette. The belt is made from old silver neck tie that i fashioned in to a waste bow tie...cute huh!..

Last night I was fortunate to be invited to a lovely wedding at the QVB to one of Ant's dear friends. a couple of weeks back i bought a delightfully sweet bolero with baby blue floral accents. I was in love...i purchased it from my fave vintage store "Eva's Vintage in Leichhardt ....the bolero is by Ed and beck an Australian designer. I really didn't have anything to wear with it but i was adamant to wear the piece to the wedding. Strong shoulders are so fab this season and it was my homage to the likes of Balmain to wear it. Luckily for me i came across a flowy silk witchery dress that swished and swayed like a love song.....ahhhhh

The ceremony was lovely and the reception utterly charming. High ceilings, candlelit.champagne pouring, sound of jazz, mellow conversations, delicious food...handsome men. Reminded me from a scene from Meet Joe Black....

Poetry, imagery and dreams used as inspiration in everyday life... I always believe that we should add a little bit fantasy and glamour in our days. This picture reminds me of Salvador Dali for some reason, it could be the ladder silently standing on it's own or the child holding a leopard print umbrella. It certainly evokes drama. I love the man's top hat...makes me want to find one.
